Take the Challenge

Stuck in a rut or looking for motivation to try and get more out of your workout?  You might want to consider placing a side bet with a friend or coworker.  In the three years that I have been with my company I have organized 4 different contests for weight loss.  They have ranged from 2-12 people and between 20-200 dollars on the line.  We even tried the 100 pushup challenge (didn’t go too far though). Sometimes it’s easier to push yourself to the gym when you know that someone else might be beating you.

I have a buddy right now that is involved in a bet with a female friend of ours. The bet is to see who can lose the most body fat by the end of December. The loser has to color their hair any color that the winner so chooses and then they go out and celebrate. Sounds kind of odd to me but he has really pushed himself hard to win this thing. He is already done 6 pounds!  Yesterday he and I bet that he couldn’t do 10 unassisted pull-ups without stopping. He has to the end of January to complete it. If he loses, he owes me supper. If he wins, then he has the added benefit of being that much stronger.

The point is, if you are lacking in motivation right now; grab a friend and hit the gym together. You will be surprised by the results.
