Yoga – P90x Style

Last night I did the P90x YogaX and it rocked.  Its been a few months since I have done this and I forgot how much it kicks ones’ butt.  This morning I came into the office hoping so spread the good word of yoga to my fellow associates and I was immediately met with laughter and raised eyebrows.  “Yoga? You did yoga? Isn’t that for women?”  There is such a misconception around yoga and who can benefit from it. Most men look at it as a series of bends and poses that are done by women.  How could you possibly get a good workout from doing poses? After only 45 minutes of yogax last night, I was drenched in sweat…drenched!  After the 90 minutes was up, I was ready for it to be over but I felt relaxed, refreshed and ready for the next time. Tony Horton does such a great job putting this workout together and allowing the people that aren’t quite at his level, different options to the exercise that will still give them great results.  I was able to almost all the exercises with great ease except for that stupid crane move. That one gets me every time!

I challenge any guys out there to take a yoga class or pick up a yoga DVD and give it a try.  I think you will be surprised at the effect it will have on you. If you have tried the P90X Yoga, please comment on what you thought of it.

Below are some of the positive results of doing yoga.

Tyson – I love yoga so much. I’m doing Yoga X once a week and attend a yoga class once a week. The class is very insightful. In very general terms, the women are unbelievably flexible and the men are much stronger. Still, the exercise works for both. Over time, the women become stronger, while maintaining their flexibility and the men gain flexability while maintaining their strength. It is really facinating to me how this series of orchestrated poses can accomplish both of these things, while also helping to quiet and focus the mind. Love my yoga!

What P90x routine are you doubling up your yoga class with? I would think that I would be too tired after P90x to do any sort of stretching!

Hey Tyson, just found your blog. Great stuff! I do Yoga X twice a week and I can’t say enough about how much it works me. I’m always amazed at how quickly I begin sweating (usually right around Warrior 2 the first time around) and it just gets better throughout. I often find my hands slipping out from under me during my vinyasas, have you experienced this at all? Any advice on prevention would be appreciated.

I am glad you like the site and are digging P90x as much as myself. I always find it amazing how much I sweat when doing the yoga too. Who knew! I don’t have the issue with the sweaty hands as I do my yoga on the carpet but I see how that could be a problem. Don’t the yoga mats have some texture to them to help prevent sliding? I wonder if some sort of weight training glove would also help to absorb that? Or maybe just doing the vinyasas on a towel would help?

The weight training gloves are an idea. I’ll try mine out and see if that’s any help. The mat does have a texture to it but isn’t as much of a help as you’d hope based on the obvious reason for it to be there to begin with.

Sounds great. Let me know how it goes.
