High Sodium Content

Yesterday I was standing in line at Wal-mart and noticed an article in Women’s World that spoke of the affect that Sodium has on our waste line. I found this funny because just the day before I was having a conversation with some family members about sodium intake. My wife and I have even spoke of reducing our intake of sodium.
So today I got to wondering where my sodium intake was. I mean, I eat very healthy so my intake must be low. Right? WRONG!! I started to add what I had eaten today only to discover by mid-afternoon I had already hit my daily limit. Based on the fact that I was going to have the same thing for supper that I had for lunch, I knew I would be over by at least 1500mg for the day. How could this be? Well my biggest contributors for the day came from the gluten free pancakes I had for breakfast and the spaghetti squash lasagna I had for lunch. The spaghetti sauce and cheese added a ton. Processed foods….sigh…
From what I have been reading, we should be getting around 2500mg of sodium a day. I started to wonder if I have ever come in below that mark. I figured an experiment was in order (naturally)!
Here is what I am going to do. Tomorrow morning I am going to weigh myself and take a body fat test. I then am going to continue eat as I normally would for the next 7 days (which is healthy). I am then going to weigh myself again and take my body fat. At the end of that 7 days, I will post my entire nutritional outcome. Everyone including myself will be able to see what I did and how my sodium levels looked.
Then next week (although its Thanksgiving and will be very very tough), I am going to try and cut back on my sodium levels to get below that 2500mg mark. I will again weigh myself on Day 1 and weight out on Day 7. I will also continue to post my nutrition on the blog for all to see.
I think this will be fun experiment and I am very interested in seeing how hard its going to be to get below 2500mg a day with the kind of processed foods that I eat.
