Vaccines and Autism Ruling

Recently the Vaccine Court ruled that there was absolutely no link between vaccinations and autism. I can’t say that I really put much stock in their decision. I don’t have any hard proof that there is a link but I also cannot prove that there isn’t. I think whenever you are injecting a small child whose body is still developing with a substances like Mercury, bad things are bound to happen. Common sense would tell you that. Those things may not happen to every child that is being injected but is that a chance that most parents are willing to take if given the choice and with some doubt? If our government is so sure of this decision, why is there a law in place the prohibits the pharmaceuticals companies from being sued from defects in their products? If there is absolutely no way that a vaccine could cause these affects then why the law? If you truly believe in your product, then take on the naysayers directly. Don’t hide behind a law.

The ruling today came as no real surprise to me. After all, if the courts came in and said that they believe there could be a link between autism and vaccines, our entire governing health body would be questioned. Parents would question the vaccines and many would stop giving them all together. The pharmaceutical companies that create the vaccines would lose millions of dollars. Elected officials would lose their campaign funding. It would be a domino affect and everything our government does in terms of health care would be questioned (health-care bill anyone?). The government feels that they need to stand by their decision to force everyone to receive a vaccine whether they truly believe in it or not. They will never admit that they were wrong and potentially put millions of people at risk.

Today’s ruling wasn’t a shock at all. Just another way the government forces their false health ideals on a society that looks to them for the answers. Shame on them.

Anyone want to offer up some debate?

Autism is an extremely emotional issue. Yet, having worked for a special needs hospital, I would state that the medical community in its evidence based practices emphatically state studies that show no correlation between autism and vaccinations. Dr. Andrew Wakefield, the physician who first stated a correlation, has recently been discredited by the very paper, the Lancelet, who first published his results. Wakefield now resides in Texas and claims he is still correct. If you look at the subjects he used in his trials, they were done on a small sample and had pre-existing conditions.
With that said, I am not totally convinced that the vaccine doesn’t add to the issue. Autism seems to crop up in the more industrialized countries. Does the vaccine add to it coming out more in these countries? Maybe so. But I’m more inclined to believe there are other forces more at work and behind this trend. Every 5 years the incidence of autism increases and the government certainly needs to step up to the plate and determine what’s behind it all.

As a side note – did you know that many flu vaccines also have thimerosal?

Great reply. I was just talking with my wife about this topic the other day. Our conversation was based around some of the things that may interact with the ingredients of the vaccines. For example, our increased consumption of processed and genetically modified foods. I don’t know if I necessarily agree that the vaccine itself is the sole cause by I certainly think it could be a catalyst to it.

I did not know that about flu shots. I don’t get the shot anyway but its good to know that I now have an official reason! Thanks for that info.
