P90x Challenge – Week 4

Week4

Lets check in and see how everyone did on the P90x Recovery Week. I only got 2 reports back this week. I hope its because everyone is so exhausted from the workouts that they couldn’t lift their fingers to type!

Shane

Shane_blog It was a nice break and I took it as such…not too much intense working out, although I did the Yoga and Synergistics, which I liked. I am excited to get back on the wagon this week. I’m still feeling some soreness in my knees, which is really starting to annoy me, but I’m able to do more of the workouts, which is positive.

Week 4 is the official recovery week of P90x. I continued to do my weekly 24 hour fast on Monday and I must say that it’s getting pretty easy to do. I am going to have to try and go for a 36 hour one again.

I will be straightforward and tell you that in my past p90x cycles, I have never followed the recovery week programs. I usually just upped my cardio on this week. This time around I tried to follow it as close as I could.  I had a few things trip me up though. My week started out with family in town. Because of this I skipped Day 1 yoga. My Mom flew out early Monday morning and the rest of my day just flew by and I wasn’t able to squeeze it in.

I did Core Synergistic for the first time ever on Tuesday and it was a killer. I can’t believe that I have never done that workout before. It was awesome. Against better judgment, I decided to hit the gym over lunch that day for some shooting around. I was still feeling sore from the morning workout but I thought I could take it easy. While going up for a reverse layup, I pulled something in my neck. That sore neck caused me to miss Kenpo on Wednesday. Instead I sat in the hot tub at the gym for 30 minutes trying to release some tension.

Thursday I did X Stretch and I think it really helped to loosen things up. That night I played in my weekly basketball league and felt first-rate. Friday saw me doing Core Synergistic yet again but with better success this time around. Friday night we travelled out of town and the second yoga session of the week suffered because of it. I did get some good playtime in on Saturday with the kids at the park. We ran the track and got some great sprints in.

My weight has been fluctuating quite a bit lately and my body fat has remained the exact same. I don’t like to make excuses for myself but I think my wife nailed it right on when I was expressing my frustration to her. She reminded me that I have had a lot of stressful situations come up in the last few weeks and stress can have a serious impact on weight loss attempts. I am not eating more but I believe I am retaining more water because of the stress. I will buy that for now. I am going to try and ramp up my workouts a bit and see if I can’t get over this little plateau that I have hit. If anyone has any recommendations on how to deal with stress and losing weight, please leave me a comment.

This week is a new phase of P90x and one of my favorite. I am looking forward to some great results this week. It’s time to Bring It!
