Have I Hit a Plateau?

Plateau My motivation to work out has been missing as of late. I don’t know what it is. Spring fever maybe? A desire to do something different? I think one of the big problems is that I have not seen any new results lately. For some reason I have always felt that if the needle on the scale or the percentage on that fat analyzer isn’t going down, then I must be doing something wrong. Take for example at this very moment in time. I am 170lbs and just under 11% body fat. Most people would probably give their left leg to have those stats but I have been sitting at this point for over a month now and I am anxiously waiting for those numbers to continue to go downward. Why can’t I be satisfied where they are? I have never understood maintenance. If I work hard I always expect the numbers to get better, not stay the same. Is that too much to request? I think not!

Who else suffers from this predicament?

i think that you get to a point where you can’t make it go any lower. then it starts to get unhealthy & maybe a little obsessive. i think you should be happy with where you’re at. that doesn’t mean you have to stop working out or dieting. just means you shouldn’t expect to see different results once you’ve reached a certain point.

When you have been working towards a goal for years, you get into the mind set that the scale always has to go lower and the pants always have to get more loose. It’s hard to sit back and say “I made it.”

I have thought about this some more and I think I always feel like I need to get leaner and stronger. I have goals in mind and competitions to complete. I don’t know if I could ever go into a “maintenance” mode because I would get bored and totally lose my desire to continue to work out. I am a very goal orientated person.

I am new at this but have hit a few speed bumps due to scheduled fasting. My scale always plunges after a fast but them I tend to retain after a day of normal eating. Speaking strictly of abs, if I can’t see them I know I am carrying fat. The only way to burn fat is to metabolize more and work your ass off. Fasting slows my metabolism so my next few meals get stored.

I am not fasting anymore until I get to maintenance which for me is 7 pounds away at 7% body fat. I believe in a primal diet and also believe in IF but think for me right now it is keeping me off goal.

A week out of the gym probably did you good. Load up on good carbs on Sunday and see if Monday doesn’t feel better.

Btw…. Based in your photos you have no shame man.

I too tend to drop some pounds when fasting and although a few come back, it’s not too many. I usually lose more than I gain which keeps me on the positive side.

I may try your suggestion and lay off fasting for a bit and instead maybe do some consecutive low carb days. I did hit the gym today for a good legs and back workout and I felt really good after I left. I will probably go easy over the weekend and then hit the diet and gym hard next week. Memorial Day weekend will be hard but I think I can come out ahead on that one as well.

Thanks for the compliment on the photo’s. Much appreciated. I will keep working hard. Check back often to see my progress.

      Thanks for posting.
