This week has been tough staying on schedule with all the activities and my weight has fluctuated and is now at 166 this morning. It’s time to buckle back down and get busy. I want to be under 160 by next week.

Last week was my last week of P90x. I hit a wall and no amount of pushing was going to get me over it. I also have managed to jam the bones in my left foot so all forms of intense cardio were out the window. This week I am taking it easy with some light swimming as my cardio and not weight training. Next week I hope to start a new training program. As of right now, I am not sure what that is going to be. I may join my wife in doing Turbofire or I may do the “300” workout.

I’m finding the workouts are getting easier for me week by week and Tony’s voice and jokes still get on my nerves. I have had to skip a few of the workouts last week but also seeing more results. I’m now down to 160ish and started at 187. I’m making good progress and need to stick with it and get more dedicated to drop below the 160 mark.

Last week was a good week for working out. I did my usual workouts and even mixed in a few misc. things like walking and trail running. My weight and body fat has remained static though. With that said, this will be my last official week of P90x. I have hit a wall with my working out and I feel the only way to overcome it is to switch things up a bit. I know that I only have 2 weeks left of P90x but if my mind is not in it, then would just be wasted anyway.

(Reuters Health) – Among rice lovers, people who eat brown rice or other whole grains seem to have a lower risk of developing diabetes than those who eat white rice, Boston-based researchers said on Monday. (Source)
I find studies like this to be somewhat fascinating. The focus here is on brown rice reducing the risk of diabetes over white rice. OK, I understand this and I can see how that would be true. But we need to look at the bigger picture here. The article touches on it very briefly but I wanted to elaborate more. People usually eat brown rice because they "know" it is healthier for them than its highly processed brother, the white rice. If you are eating brown rice because of its nutritional value, then you are probably eating other foods that are better for you. If you know that brown rice is better for you than white rice but you continue to eat the white rice, then it’s my guess that you probably eat other foods that aren’t so good for you. Foods that will greatly contribute to your chances of developing diabetes.
People need to eat healthy in all aspects of their life, not just rice. Doing so will greatly reduce, if not eliminate, any chance of ever developing diabetes.

I took the opportunity this morning to hit a favorite trail running and mountain biking spot of mine: Kill Creek. I only get out there about once a year and I really try hard to make the most of it. Today I decided I was going to run it mainly because I didn’t want to go through the hassle of getting my bike over there. As I pulled into the park I noticed a sign for a 5k run. It turns out it was a small one and neither them nor I would get in each others way. I parked my car in the usual spot and took off for the trails.
About 10 minutes into the run I noticed something move on the trail ahead of me. As I got closer, I noticed it was a snake stretching out on the path. My foot came down within a foot of his head. I think afterwards I ran the hardest and fastest I ever have on a trail. I am not afraid of snakes, I just don’t like them much!
I probably should mention that I got up this morning knowing there was going to be a chance of rain and thunderstorms rolling through the area. I decided to chance it and head out before they arrived. According the weather map, they were at least 2 hours away. Now during my entire run, I could hear thunder over the sound of my headphones…but no rain. As I neared the end of the trail the sky’s opened up and it poured and poured…and poured. I ended up doing the last mile in the rain and became soaked!
It was a great time though and the rain and thunder really added to the experience of being out there. It’s so peaceful and I love just being one with nature. I didn’t have my camera with me this time but here are some pictures that I took 2 years back. Pretty much looks the same which is what nature is all about!
Here is the storm cell that passed through while I was out there. I guess I should be lucky that it wasn’t anything more than rain! BTW, the 5k race got cancelled.

I am late getting this out there but it’s been a crazy week. As I listed in my P90x challenge post, I am getting really tired of P90x. I have done it so many times that it’s no longer a challenge and I feel that I have entered into a redundancy factor. Even so, I managed to lose some pounds this week and got my body fat done to 10%. 3 weeks left and then I am onto something else!
