Vaccines and Autism Ruling

Recently the Vaccine Court ruled that there was absolutely no link between vaccinations and autism. I can’t say that I really put much stock in their decision. I don’t have any hard proof that there is a link but I also cannot prove that there isn’t. I think whenever you are injecting a small child whose body is still developing with a substances like Mercury, bad things are bound to happen. Common sense would tell you that. Those things may not happen to every child that is being injected but is that a chance that most parents are willing to take if given the choice and with some doubt? If our government is so sure of this decision, why is there a law in place the prohibits the pharmaceuticals companies from being sued from defects in their products? If there is absolutely no way that a vaccine could cause these affects then why the law? If you truly believe in your product, then take on the naysayers directly. Don’t hide behind a law.

The ruling today came as no real surprise to me. After all, if the courts came in and said that they believe there could be a link between autism and vaccines, our entire governing health body would be questioned. Parents would question the vaccines and many would stop giving them all together. The pharmaceutical companies that create the vaccines would lose millions of dollars. Elected officials would lose their campaign funding. It would be a domino affect and everything our government does in terms of health care would be questioned (health-care bill anyone?). The government feels that they need to stand by their decision to force everyone to receive a vaccine whether they truly believe in it or not. They will never admit that they were wrong and potentially put millions of people at risk.

Today’s ruling wasn’t a shock at all. Just another way the government forces their false health ideals on a society that looks to them for the answers. Shame on them.

Anyone want to offer up some debate?

I love my Vibrams

I just want to say that I love my Vibrams.  Absolutely love them!  I ordered the Vibram Black on Black KSO’s last Wednesday direct from the manufacturer and got them in the mail on Monday. Today was the first day that I really got to test them out. Over lunch I decided I was going to do some P90x plyometrics wearing them. Putting them on is getting easier and my toes seem to be getting used to being jammed in the holes as well. It took me only 1 try on my left foot and 2 tries on my right foot before I was situated.  Today I started out wearing them along with the toed socks that I bought. However, about 20 minutes into it, my toes really started to hurt.  I assumed it was the socks, so I took them off and started up again. I was right. The pain went away immediately. I figure that the socks probably were being bunched up against my toes and caused the pain. I am a bit disappointed in that fact because I was hoping the socks would help with the moisture that my feet tend to attract. The last thing I want is stinky shoes!

One thing I noticed immediately is  how connected I feel to the floor when wearing the Vibrams. Just like walking barefoot.  I was even able jump higher than normal but still land correctly. You are almost forced to land correctly. After all, landing on your heal with no soft cushion underneath could do some serious damage.  But after 50 minutes of jumping, neither my legs or feet felt sore. It’s was also so nice to not have the weight of a clunky shoe underfoot.  I may never do Plyo with traditional shoes again.

This evening my wife and I headed back to the YMCA. She was going to hit the cardio machines and I wanted to do some weight training with the shoes. I wore the Vibrams and even though it felt a little weird to drive with  them on, I quickly got over it. I did get quite a few stares at this YMCA and even had one guy stop me mid-set  to talk about the shoes. He told me they were the most awesome shoes he had ever seen. We chatted about the benefits of them and a few minutes later I was back to it.  Again, the connection to the floor is amazing. There is no more slip between my foot and the heal and I don’t feel like my shoes are causing me to lean forward. I performed a few overhead presses and my balance was spot on. I was even able to do some of the exercises on one foot with perfect balance. There is no more false leverage from a shoe that thinks it knows how to align your foot. These shoes are amazing.  Probably one of the best workouts I have had in a long time and I owe it to the Vibrams.

After the gym we hit Chipotle and then Target. Again I wore the shoes. I got a few more stares in Target but nothing major. I did have sweat pants on and I think that hid most of the shoe from site. Oh well…their loss.

I am currently trying to convince my wife to get a pair and I think we may hit the store this weekend so she can try a pair on. She is looking to get a new pair of running shoes but I think she will quickly fall in love with these.

I highly recommend this shoe to anyone and everyone. You wont be disappointed.

Primal Shopping List

I happened upon a primal shopping list a few weeks back on LivePrimal.com and it had been a blessing for both my wife and I. It allowed us to go to the store and know exactly what to buy and not buy and it allows my wife to quickly see what I will and will not eat. Its was a win/win situation for us both!

As time went on, however, I noticed that I needed to add more food items to the list. So I converted the .pdf  into a word document so that I could edit it more easily.  I have attached a continuously updated .pdf version of the document here.  If you can think of more items to be added, please leave them in the comments section and I will then update the  list as soon as I can.

Be sure to check out LivePrimal.com for more great Primal information.  Enjoy!

Cauliflower Fried Rice

Ashley and I have been experimenting a lot lately with cauliflower, mainly as a substitute in our Sweet and Sour chicken.  Last night I got the itch to make some fried rice with it.  I set out on a search of the Internet and found a few that I thought would be good but I didn’t have all of the required ingredients. So I did what I do best and improvised.  The end result came out awesome and there wasn’t much left of it afterward. I figure there was probably enough there to feed a family of 4 but it was so good that I couldn’t resit eating most of myself.   Here is what I did.

Ingredients

  • Head of Cauliflower
  • 2 onions chopped
  • 2 clove garlic
  • coconut oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 3 tablespoons gluten free soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas

Instructions

  1. I started out by chopping the the cauliflower, onions, and garlic cloves using our Vidalia Chop Wizard. If you don’t have one of these, you need to get one. It makes chopping vegetables so much easier than by hand and the cleanup is painless. After chopping I cooked the ingredients in a large pain along with some coconut oil for about 5 minutes. At about 3 minutes into that, I added the frozen peas, soy sauce and paprika.
  2. At the 5 minute mark I moved the mixture to the side and added 3 whole eggs. I made sure to break up the yokes a bit and allowed it all to cook. Once the eggs where cooked but still soft, I mixed them in with the rest of the cauliflower mixture that has been set aside in the pan. I let it cook for a few more minutes and then promptly removed from the heat. The key to all of this is to continuously stir the mix or it will burn to the bottom of the pan.

Cooking time (duration): 10

Diet (other): Reduced carbohydrate, High protein, Gluten free

Number of servings (yield): 4

My wife commented that it was really good and suggested maybe adding some chicken in next time. That is a great idea and would really add some protein to it and could really make it a meal by itself. I actually served this particular one with some almond encrusted tilapia.

I apologize for the quality of the picture. All I had was my camera phone.
